Hello, I’m Kimmy Peterson, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I feel privileged to assist and inspire youth and families in Sonoma County. As a therapist, I have been able to build successful relationships with people who have not been able to make such connections previously, and I work hard to create emotionally safe situations in which each family member can give voice to their needs and concerns. I am committed to ongoing work with youth with complex issues, and I have worked successfully with families from many different backgrounds using individualized approaches that best meet the needs of each family.

I started my work in this field in the Lake Tahoe area with survivors of domestic violence and their families. After moving to the Bay Area I served at a homelessness program in Marin County. During this time I was a children’s coordinator and family therapist intern helping youth, families, couples and running a women’s empowerment group. After completing this internship I spent four years with a large family agency as a clinician. This work focused on reuniting families with their children who were coming out of a long-term treatment program, other custody placements, or juvenile hall.

Theoretical Orientation

I have training and experience in a several methods of therapy that allow me to provide individual treatment depending on the needs of the client. These include a Family-Systems-based approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic and Narrative Therapy and Strengths-based therapy.
