Hi, I’m Jennifer Norstrom, licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I’m passionate about helping adults and teens navigate difficult life experiences and improve the quality of their relationships. I have a specialization in EMDR, an evidence-based technique for processing trauma and sudden loss, whether due to abuse, divorce, or tragedy. My aim is to decrease tension in families and empower each member with tools for healing and change.
I have been in the healing arts profession for 18 years. My interest in helping others began early on in my life, and through my own personal healing journey and work with others, I began to understand the connection between trauma and physical symptoms in the body. This inspired me to go into the field of psychotherapy.
After moving to the bay area, I began my graduate work at California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco in 2008, and took an internship at Family Service Agency of Marin. Along with supporting people through grief and loss, I worked with relationship issues with couples and families, and individuals struggling with addiction. Several years later after intense study of EMDR for trauma-resolution and PTSD, I assisted clients who had suffered from childhood abuse and neglect, or had been a witness to violence or tragedy.
Drawing from the theoretical orientations of cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, family systems, somatic-emotional/ EMDR, and non-violent communication, I consider the needs of each person, the goals for therapy, and time frame into my approach.
