MFT License #100091

My name is Jason Newman, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am a proud native to Sonoma County, and I have enjoyed living in this wonderful area for most of my life. I am privileged to work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples.

Experience

I began working with troubled children and families at Social Advocates for Youth where I worked with clients through Medi-Cal using cognitive behavioral methods. I continued my work at Napa High School and Headwaters Academy. I have several years of working in behavioral modification, and I specifically worked with developmentally disabled children in schools and homes applying token systems, behavioral shaping, planned ignoring, and other strategies to change problematic behavior.

Additionally, I have worked closely with the LGBTQI community. I have a passion to help those who feel marginalized by society, and I have spent time working with transgender youth and have volunteered at community events supporting the transgender community.

I have case management and housing assistance experience from my time with Marin Housing Authority helping individuals find housing. I was on the shelter plus care team, which provided housing assistance and case management. I also worked briefly at Aurora psychiatric hospital running groups with adolescents. I truly enjoyed helping those who struggle with deep depression.

I spent time at Community Institute for Psychotherapy serving the AB109 (probation) population and am currently working at Juvenile Hall in Napa County as a therapist.

I have a warm approach that projects non-judgment. I understand people come from different walks of life, and as a therapist, I feel privileged to work with those who are in need of a warm, welcoming guide.

Education

I began my higher education at the University of California, Santa Cruz. I gained my bachelor’s degree in the intensive psychology program, took courses in psychology and law, with a focus on developmental psychology.

I moved on to do my masters in counseling psychology at the University of San Francisco. Currently I find myself drawn to trainings and continued education to assist those lacking in resources. I am trained in Gottman level 1 & 2 couples counseling, and I have run groups on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

I enjoy a combination of cognitive behavioral/Dialectical behavioral techniques, and I practice mindfulness and model anxiety reduction techniques in session.
